Blaire's Been: Athens, Spetses and Naxos

Hey yall! So I'm switching up my format for these blog posts, and I feel it's especially necessary after my trip to Greece. I visited 6 locations in 10 days and saw soooo many hotels, so rather than writing a big list of things I liked, I'll summarize some highlights of each!

Athens

While in Athens, I not only toured 4 hotels but also did a half day walking tour. I HIGHLY suggest this for any newbie to Athens. It was the perfect way to get acquainted with the city, see the sites, learn about the history and have a better feel for the layout of the neighborhoods. Of course BPK Travel knows the best guides, too, in the city!

Athens Was

I stayed at Athens Was my first night, and it's a great boutique option. It's on a pedestrian street and has modern décor. It's not in the heart of Athens, but it's about a 10 minute walk from the action. The rooftop restaurant has stunning views of the Acropolis, too! *images taken from the internet

New Hotel

I spent my second night at New Hotel. This is also a boutique option but more in the heart of the city. New Hotel is funky, too, and definitely has a lively and younger vibe, The rooftop bar was packed with hotel guests and is a great gathering space. The rooms are VERY modern with lots of gold plated mirrors in many forms scattered throughout. This hotel is definitely not for everyone, however, since the décor is definitely wild! *images taken from the internet

King George

King George was so cute! This luxury hotel is directly in the heart of the city. The rooms are light and bright with wooden floors and soft colors on the walls. The restaurant on the top floor is beyond beautiful and is where you will receive your daily breakfast (when booking with BPK!).

Grand Bretagne

The Grand Bretagne which is neighbors with King George is the most "grand" of all the properties I saw in Athens. The décor is heavier with rich colors like golds and reds and woods. The restaurant on the ground level has a beautiful atrium that lets in so much light. Its spa is incredible with a gorgeous pool and many steam and sauna rooms to choose from before your treatment. The rooftop restaurant has the most insane panoramic views of the city, and Grand Bretagne has a pool that is perfect for guests wanting to escape the heat in the middle of summer in Athens!

Spetses & Porto Heli

I ventured out to the Western islands after spending a few days in Athens to kick start my Greek island getaway! I stayed in Spetses and did a tour of Porto Heli before moving on. Spetses is a 2 hour ferry ride from Athens and is a pedestrian, cosmopolitan city which serves as the getaway for wealthy Athenians. In the summer time, the main marina is lined with yachts and it's the place to "see and be seen". Plus there are TONS of activities on Spetses. You can of course boat but also bike ride, hike and eat LOTS of great food! After my time in Spetses, I took the 15 minute water taxi across to Porto Heli to tour a hotel before driving 3 hours back to Athens.

Poseidonian Hotel

The thing I loved so much about the Poseidonian Hotel is the feeling it gave me not just while I was there but even afterwards. After coming home from Greece, the Poseidonian is one of the hotels my mind keeps going back to. This hotel is the anchor of the city and is walking distance to the shops and restaurants. It's light and bright in its décor, too. The staff is super friendly, and the food is amazing, too! I loved it.

Amanzoe

Amanzoe is perched in the hilltops of Porto Heli, and guys, this is a WOW property! The modern décor paired with the incredible landscaping and the rolling landscape is insane. Another thing I loved about Amanzoe is that thought it's in the hills, they have a beach club with roundtrip car service. The beach club has a few pools (adults and family friendly) as well as an incredible restaurant. It's super chic without feeling "too fancy".

Naxos

I've sent many clients here who are looking for nice beaches but are also not necessarily wanting to deal with hustle and bustle of Mykonos. There are many direct flights from Athens to Naxos (I would NOT take a ferry) or short 1 hour ferries from Mykonos or Santorini. Naxos has gorgeous sandy, wide beaches, a great town center with many restaurants and bars and a lot of access to nature to hike and explore what the island has to offer.

18 Grapes

This hotel has my favorite room product. 18 Grapes is a boutique property which is walking distance to many beach clubs. The warm wood and minimalist décor makes for a cozy stay!

Naxian on the Beach

Naxian on the Beach was my favorite hotel on Naxos. The only thing is that it's a 3 night minimum stay, and there are only 10 rooms, so getting availability here is tough, The Tortuga beach bar is super "instagrammable" and just plain cool, and it's the only luxury hotel that's directly on the beach. *pictures taken from the internet

Naxian Collection Villas and Suites

I had the pleasure of staying at the Naxian Collection, and this hotel's common spaces were by far my favorite. The lobby and bar area were perfectly decorated, the outdoor dining space was very quaint and the wine cellar was the perfect place to gather with friends and have a wine tasting. There are many room categories here ranging from a one off hotel room to a villa with multiple rooms.

I personally feel that these destinations are great to pair with Mykonos or Santorini or even replace those destinations, especially if you've been before!!
